Yet Gandhi alone continues to occupy two familial positions in the Indian imagination, as 'father of the nation', and as the greatest 'son of India'. Equally the doctrine of Gandhian satyagraha or non violence has entered political discourse as a persuasive entity, far beyond the borders of India, through world leaders like Nelson Mandela and now, Barack Obama.
Within such multiple contexts various artists have been invited to participate in the exhibition Bapu.
