The resurrection of Amrita Sher-Gil

Much of her work seeks to depict the isolated lifestyles of women living on feudal estates, and many of her paintings evoke an inner world of boredom, resignation, idle pastimes and desires. The inspiration behind the vivacious painter in Salman Rushdie’s The Moor’s Last Sigh, Amrita Sher-Gil is often referred to as India’s Frida Kahlo.
